This division focuses on marketing animal feed ingredients and additives, including prilled palm fat. A key application of prilled palm fat is in animal nutrition, where it is used as a feedstock to provide energy for both ruminant and monogastric animals.
Fats are primarily composed of triesters of fatty acids and glycerol, known as triglycerides. They are essential nutrients, providing the body with energy and serving as a source of necessary fatty acids.
Prilled palm fat is an excellent fat supplement for livestock, containing over 99% fat. Its main nutritional benefit is its ability to supply energy. The primary use of palm fat is in ruminant diets, particularly in dairy farming, where advances in cattle management have created a demand for concentrated energy supplements for lactating cows. Studies have shown that feeding this fat reduces feed intake while significantly increasing milk yield, without compromising milk fat content.
The product is obtained through physical processing, without hydrogenation, ensuring it is free from trans fatty acids. Its high palmitic acid content is the key fatty acid that can bypass the rumen, improving digestibility. Additionally, it can be effectively utilized without disrupting the function of rumen microorganisms.
Supplementing with high-fat palm fat reduces the risk of ketosis by meeting the nutritional needs of dairy cattle. Palm fat is also highly palatable to ruminants, being odorless and having a low level of unsaturated fatty acids, which helps prevent rancidity. With Malaysia's consistent palm production throughout the year, the supply of palm fat is reliable, ensuring availability for both export and local markets. It is a practical and cost-effective ingredient for feed formulations aimed at improving milk production and overall dietary management.
